Miners & Merchants was one of the first banks in Bisbee. For many years it was the richest bank from the Mississippi to San Francisco, and later, the richest bank in the First National Bank of Arizona chain.

Once Phelps Dodge abandoned the mine and left Bisbee behind to become a ghost town, the building was repurposed for several years by the City of Bisbee, including the Convention & Visitors Bureau, until they sold it to Floyd Lillard in 1998.

Floyd grew up in Denver Co, helping his mother in her Antique Store called “Dead People’s Things” The skeleton, sign and logo “They couldn’t take it with them, but YOU can!” have survived to continue as our mascot and defining slogan at Miners & Merchants today… you can take home our shopping bag sporting the sentiment, too.

When Floyd bought the building, he embarked on massive renovations to recover the original marble counters & wainscot, high tin ceilings hidden above an accoustic lowered framework, and loads of historical artifacts. Hidden inside the walls & between the floorboards, he found bank drafts, bare wires and bullets. Your time exploring all three stories: Main Floor, Mezzanine and Haunted Basement will reveal old treasures and new ideas to share with your friends and families as you enjoy Old Bisbee

Marietta Marcin first came to Bisbee in 1989, when her on-the-road travel selling her metal creations at Art Shows and Renaissance Festivals expanded to Arizona. She fell in love with the “Open-Air Insane Asylum” that welcomes all things, strange and beautiful.

She bought her first house in 2005, and began talking to Floyd about buying Miners & Merchants in 2019, when her mother fell ill & needed 24/7 care… in one place. No more road life, they decided, and Arizona became that one place. She loves interacting with the colorful vendors who supply the store with antiques, oddities & collectibles, and you will love our helpful and informative cashiers.
